  • Wow....what a difference a year makes. Last year, I had a pretty darn good stay at The Rio in Las Vegas. But it appears as the prices have gone up on just about everything....the services offered have not! First off, we were dismayed to learn that there was no longer a shuttle service offered to Bally's, which would take us on to the strip. If you stay at Rio now, you will have to take a cab or Uber over to the strip....which begs the question....WHY BOTHER STAYING AT THE RIO if you want to visit the strip?? On our next stay, we will definitely hit the strip. Second, we were offered tickets for Penn & Teller's TV taping of Fool Us. This was the only reason we decided to make the trip in the first place. Once we got to the theatre, we were informed that they purposely overbooked the show to make sure it was full...so after we waited in line for an hour....we were told that we did not make the audience of the show....so the whole point of the trip in the first place was completely pointless now. To top off everything....the prices here are utterly ridiculous!! The Buffet (if you choose NOT to get the Seafood) is $35. However, if you choose to add the Seafood to your meal, you are looking at $55! We opted not to get the seafood, but should have opted not to get the Buffet period. We couldn't even cut the meat....too tough to cut it with the butter knife provided. And without spending time to trash a lot of the other subpar food on this particular night....suffice it to say, that was our LAST trip to this buffet. If you stay at the Rio, you might want to walk across the street and to the buffet at the Gold Coast instead....that will definitely be tomorrow's breakfast for us. Of course, don't think that you are going to go to the gift shop and pick up any snacks....unless you want to shell out $8.75 for a bag of pretzels. If you go to Costco, you could probably get 40 pounds of pretzels for that price. This review does get one star...and rightfully so....as we do like the rooms here...they are very comfortable, and big....unfortunately, that is not enough to make us stay here again.... It's funny....one good stay, and we decided to stay here again!! One bad stay ruined the whole taste of the Rio, and ended our willingness to stay here again. Too bad.
