| - Overpriced mediocre drinks with an uppity King st vibe.
My date and I figured that this place was far away enough from King street to avoid the yuppies but we were dead wrong. Service was slow and the bartender seemed irritable and was not friendly. Let it also be said that I'm no hipster, but this place was just full of pretentious office jerks. That's a matter of personal taste, but if you're like me, avoid at all costs. With that said, the place itself was pleasant, the bar looked great, and I guess the glasses were nice too? Someone else's review put it well: it's made to look expensive but it feels cheap; fake.
The place was packed, which is unsurprising for a weeknight between 5 and 7 so had to stand, but we didn't end up staying long. Having seen positive reviews on Yelp, we figured they would at least mix a good drink. We started (and finished) with old classics; an old fashioned for him and a sazerac for me. We figured we'd try how good their classics were before moving onto something a little more fun, but were utterly underwhelmed. The old fashioned fell flat and the sazerac had no character, we could barely tell them apart. Generally, I don't mind paying a little more for a good, unique cocktail but the two cost us about $38 with tip. I don't see how classic, basic cocktails could cost us nearly $20 a piece, and they weren't even that good!
Severely disappointed in this place. The crowd was not my vibe, the drinks were bad, and the prices outrageous.
