| - A place called "House of Eating" in German gives a pretty accurate first impression of what the place is like. It's a Bavarian beer hall, with plenty of beer flowing through its taps where you can have a five-pint boot of beer if you've stopped caring about calories.I came here as part of a social outing, and that was totally appropriate. But you can find plenty of commentary on the beer, but not on the rest.
See, I myself am not a beer drinker, not because of the taste (I find a fresh Guinness complex, creamy, and refreshing as any Irishman) but because of calories. If you want complexity of flavor, go for wine. If you want to get hammered, get a cocktail at twice the alcohol with a tenth the calories. Unfortunately, this made me a very sad customer here. I first tried to order a Negroni, whereupon the bartender asked me what it was. I explained how to make it (equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, garnished with orange peel), and he asked me what Campari is. So I got a Manhattan instead. What disappointed in the alcohol they used was made up for with price. Thank god I was able to drown the quality of the liquor with the quantity of the liquor.
But obviously come here for the beer. If you're not a beer drinker don't come here. Go to Merchant or something.
