| - Considering the clientele that this hospital serves, they do a pretty good job.
This hospital is surrounded by several relatively low income neighborhoods (especially to the North). Unfortunately this often leads to an influx of people that do not have insurance or a primary care doctor that come in for any type of ailment. That leads to a packed ER most of the time. So be forwarned, if you have a minor ailment, you are much better served going to an urgent care facility (which is really what you are supposed to do anyway).
I unfortunately have had to go to this facility twice in the past year. Once for my father who had a massive head laceration that required ~60 stitches and once for my mother who had a bizarre reaction to the pain she was experiencing from gall stones and basically completely crashed. In both instances, despite having a completely full ER, someone was out to help us within 30 seconds and once the initial assessment was made, both of them were whisked straight to the front of the line. So although I feel for the people sitting for hours in the waiting room, the hospital's prioritization process does work when exercised. In addition, once in the treatment area, both of my parents were tended to almost immediately and the tests required were performed extremely quickly.
In terms of quality of care, I really have to say that the doctors and nursers there were really very good. As personable as one could expect with a line of 100 people waiting to see them, checking on the patient at regular intervals, and being quite accomodating of the people waiting to get in to see the patient. Once you get out of the ER and into the rest of the hospital, the people that work there are actually downright pleasant.
Tip 1: Only go here if you have a serious injury. Go to urgent care if it is less serious and you can afford the time or go to the ER out in Gilbert if you really want to go to a hospital.
Tip 2: The signs to get to the ER once you turn in are rediculious. If you enter from Frye on the North, they take you all the way around the building. Just turn onto the street one before the sigh for the ER (you can see the sign for the ER ahead) and come around from the east side. Will save you about 3 minutes of snaking through the parking lot streets.
The surgery ward is super efficient and the process for pre and post for keeping the family informed was quite good.
The cleanliness of the facility was a bit on the poor side, and parts were looking a bit run down. I hope once they finish witht he addition they get to remodel the older portion to bring it up to snuff with the new side.
The big headache here is the billing. A royal pain with 20 bills coming from each individual involved in the care right down to the lady who delivers lunch (ok a bit of an exaggeration there). Not without errors either, no doubt due to the complexity of the whole billing proces. Who can keep track of all those different bills? My goodness. Having had my fair share of medical issues and hospital issues to deal with, the billing process here was by far the worst I've seen in terms of complexity.
