rev:text	I had a horrific postpartum experience here with Angela DeTie and need to give other unsuspecting mothers fair warning: DO NOT see this midwife for any breastfeeding-related issues!! In nursing my second child, I got mastitis twice. Unfortunately it's quite common and I stuck it out with antibiotics, warm compresses, etc. Aside from the fact I was in a great deal of pain, I told Angela of a burning sensation among other symptoms too graphic for this post. Angela told me I needed to nurse through the pain - that I needed to be nursing more and decide if I wanted to continue breastfeeding or not. She was completely bewildered that I seemed distraught and in pain. In fact, she didn't even prescribe any pain medication, giving me the tough love, "you need to nurse through it" approach. As it turns out, on taking my baby to the pediatrician for white patches in her mouth which were swabbed and cultured, my baby had oral thrush and the pediatrician said since I was nursing that I inevitably HAD THRUSH TOO !!! My pediatrician with over 35 years experience was baffled as to why no swab or tests were run when I complained of burning and shooting pain in my boob. She was further appalled to hear I wasn't given medication by Angela, not even for pain. My baby was prescribed Nystatin, and the pediatrician prescribed me some Nystatin cream too but said to follow up with my doctor as that may not be enough. (Can you believe I ended up being treated by my daughter's pediatrician?!?) I called Wellhealth and Dr Harter's (my OB) assistant had to prescribe me a 2 week course of Diflucan OVER THE PHONE. Oh and the lovely adding-insult-to-injury experience is having to pay $108 per my insurance for this lovely, unproductive visit to Angela DeTie. My advice: DON'T DO IT!! It feels like flushing a wad of hard-earned money down the toilet to pay for a missed diagnosis. Oh and by the way...after that tough love session I'm happy to report I'm 7mos postpartum and still breastfeeding. Saw Angela at 3mos and how terrible for a mother to be dismissed and told her pain is because she's not breastfeeding enough. No thanks to a missed diagnosis and made to second guess myself over a very REAL Thrush episode!!! Mamas BEWARE!!!!!
