| - As a frequent visitor of Vegas, I've learned early on that it's all about balance when it comes to food. If you've just stuffed your face at a buffet, the last thing you want to do is eat something fried and greasy. My wife and I like to venture off the Strip, and since we were in the mood for some soba noodles, we found this cozy spot.
We both opted for the cold soba noodles -- perfect and refreshing on a hot day. We both had the veggie tempura, and for a couple bucks more, I also got the shrimp tempura. When our food arrived, the entire tray looked fantastic. However, once we started eating, we found ourselves wanting more.
Clearly, the star attraction were the soba noodles. These aren't your typical, store-bought soba noodles that are usually darker grey in color. The soba noodles here are lighter in color, with tiny little specks throughout each noodle. It has a firm and almost chewy consistency, and balanced well with the cold broth.
Along with the delicate, contrasting crunch of the tempura, everything tasted okay. But yet, something was missing. I can't quite figure it out -- the meal seemed to lack any soul, if that makes sense.
At any rate, it just seemed like $25 for what we ordered was a bit skimpy. I was still somewhat hungry. Then again, wasn't that what I wanted? Something light and healthy to counter-balance the smorgasbord of a buffet the night before? Perhaps I'm just spoiled with Fukada in Irvine, CA.
