| - Hey'all! Long-time lover of all of The Pie Shack locations until recently. My time loving The Pie Shack has been spent purchasing mini potato-spinach and chicken pies to take home. I'd never gotten a slice of the dessert pies or tried one until yesterday. I purchased a TWENTY-FIVE dollar strawberry-rhubarb pie. I do not want to outrightly bash The Pie Shack when I do love their pies and aura and vibe and all-around greatness BUT charging 25 dollars for a strawberry-rhubarb pie MADE WITH PIE FILLING, is an outrage. You are a pie place. NEVER should I go to The Pie Shack and purchase a pie that has been made with anything less than their own hands and recipes.
A jar of E.D. Smith strawberry-rhubarb pie filling is $2.00 so for them to mischeviously charge $25.00 for something that's been made with disgusting pie filling is SO SAD. Maybe I caught them on an off day, maybe something happened and they had to use pie filling, for the record, it WAS my first time trying their dessert pies.
SO, if you're a baker, and you work hard to make your fillings (and could taste a canned filling from a mile away), I'd stray away from the dessert pies. But BY ALL MEANS I'd recommend this place for the mini savoury pies anyday. And besides the pie filling, the crust on ALL of the pies is to-die-for, and they look incredible. Always appealing on the outside, and the crust in incredible.
I just really felt the need to express my disappointed review. I am a hard-working STUDENT, buying a $25 pie is a big deal. If I'm paying $25 for a dessert, I hope it's great. I bought it for my pseudo-Mother's Day and my Mother wouldn't eat more than one bite because it was pie filling and I agreed, all I could taste is the splenda-like acidic rhubarby sweetness. It was sad. I pray I caught them on an off day where something happened and they had to run to the grocery store.
