Spending a Sunday at the Porch is highly recommended! Many thanks to Rachel and her team for organizing this fun event, and to the Porch for being the hosts with the most! Mike, the GM, was very welcoming and Kevin, executive chef, gave a great overview of his vision and execution of the "garden to table" system they have going on with the garden being right at the restaurant.
The spread was amazing - the BLT crostini and the prime rib crostini (with pickled onions?! Yes, please!) were my favorites. The open bar had everyone sipping and mingling in the airy, bright, clean and open atmosphere. I had a watermelon mojito, which was gorgeous and refreshing. Later I had an "Almost Arnie", which was ok but I didn't get the full tea / lemonade flavor. Someone else ordered a pink lemonade mixed drink which looked amazing - I'll be back to try one!
The tour of the garden by Kevin was very interesting! The demonstration by Grow PGH taught me something new - planting marigolds (or other flowers) in your garden helps to keep pests away from fruits and veggies -
I'll be using this tip in my own garden.
Thanks again for a fantastic event!
