Hiking near Las Vegas there are so many options!! Anything near Mount Charleston is absolutely beautiful as you drive toward the mountain and the vastness just consumes you. During the winter months the snow caps draw you in and leave you breathless. Sometimes quite literally with the altitude change!
We arrived mid day and began our hike. Our first time to the mountain we were a little taken aback by the beauty and began following he foot prints in the snow. The problem was someone was not truly on the right path.
Midway up the trail there is a cut off which leads to a switchback. We kept looking for it but never saw it as we followed the prints through a much more "scenic" pass toward the falls. Snow deepened and made this path difficult to navigate eventually forcing us to turn back.
Midway back down we noticed hikers on the correct path and spoke to them only to realize we basically were taking the more advanced route.
We will go back to take the normal path on another day. It was beautiful and so different than any other hikes we had been on. Can't wait to see the Falls themselves.
