| - I stayed at the Doubletree on Lakeside for 3 nights. I chose this location mainly because it had a Starbucks in the lobby and, if you're a New Yorker like me, you're used to having a Starbucks on every corner. I was disappointed to learn that the Starbucks closed very early at 7pm. Most of you are probably wondering who drinks coffee after 7pm and, well, I'm a fiend.
At check-in, the lady at the front desk was surprisingly pleasant. I turned down the complimentary cookie and headed upstairs. I had a long travel day and just wanted to lay down for a nap. After a 5 minute wait for the elevators and then an additional 2 minute trip up to the 15th floor, my keys didn't work. By the way, if you're wondering why the elevators are so slow, it's because the staff uses them gratuitously--up and down--up and down--with their big cleaning carts, etc. There is no service elevator like at other hotels.
I pick up the courtesy phone and request that someone come and deliver my keys. 15 minutes of waiting in the hall, the nice lady from the front desk showed up and handed me new keys. There wasn't another staff member that could deliver them? Weird.
In the room at long last. I was surprised with the decor. Everything was clean and modern and the room was quite large. I had an Eastern view and could see the lake partially. The bathroom was fully stocked with clean linens and the presentation was admirable. The air conditioner was quite loud but the weather was cooling off so I barely used it.
After my nap on an extremely comfortable bed, I decided to get some work done. I connected to their complimentary wireless internet and it worked for a total of 45 seconds. Then it wouldn't connect for the duration of my stay. I tried the wired internet. It also worked at first, then crapped out after a few hours. This was probably the most annoying part of the trip and would persuade me to give this hotel a 2.5 star rating if it were available. I wasn't able to get any work done in the room which hindered my whole visit.
In summary...
Pros
* The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to local destinations (which I did not use)
* Free Cookies
* Starbucks
* Delicious Pizza at the Stadium 3 Bar & Grill (try the Roma)
* Newly renovated in 2009
Cons
* Elevators are slow as molasses
* Faulty internet (no wonder it's complimentary)
* Cleaning staff are pushy and rude
* Everything closes early
