| - Typically, I try to avoid all chain restaurants and fast food joints. Chipotle however is an exception to this rule.
Chipolte's mission statement is "Food with Integrity." They are a big advocate of the whole conscious foodie movement going on and having a big-time chain supporting this revolution shouldn't go without proper recognition.
According to their website, all of Chipotle's chicken and pork are naturally raised (i.e., open-range, antibiotic free, and with a vegetarian diet), as well as 50% of the beef. Approximately 30% of the beans are organically grown, with a pledge to eventually go 100% organic. The sour cream and cheese used at these stores are free of artificial growth hormones (rBHB).
A typical Chipolte menu consists of five items: burritos, fajita burritos, burrito bols, tacos, and salads with a choice of chicken, pork carnitas, barbacoa, steak, or vegetarian (with guacamole). Additional toppings include rice, beans, four types of salsa, sour cream, cheese, or lettuce.
It's nearly impossible to walk away hungry if you get the burrito. They are massive! If you want a lighter fare, I recommend the bol or salad. I've never tried the tacos, but I hear those are decent as well.
Overall, the food served here is good, but the fact that this company supports unprocessed, local, sustainable, naturally raised, hormone free and organic ingredients is even better. Hopefully other fast food chains will someday follow suit.
