Trying to use the free Wifi here is like going back in time to 1992 when you had to wait for your painfully slow dial up connection to load a web page. Except that in 1992, it was cool and exciting. Now it's just frustrating. I switch off my wifi and rely on my cell phone's data plan but international travellers may not have this luxury. It's a small point of contention, but one that could dramatically improve the lives of people waiting for their flights.
There isn't much in the way of shopping or dining, but the basics are present. You can pick up a coffee, a magazine and a fast food meal. The options are slightly better than airline food.
The good thing about the Calgary airport is that if you arrive within the recommended timelines, it's super quick to get through security and customs. They are efficient and adequately staffed to handle the volume during peak times. I guess if I didn't get through security so quickly, I wouldn't have time to complain about slow wifi.
