| - Vegas has hundreds of shows to choose from, each show could cost a few hundred (for our party of 3) so I was stressed for weeks trying to find the right combination that would entertain my two kids whose tastes are so similar yet so different! Plus, again, trying to theme our experiences in Vegas as "Stuff you don't see every day in LA," it was hard to sell them on Cirque shows when they can see that 10 miles from home on the Santa Monica Pier (on a much smaller scale obviously). When the Blue Men landed on my top 5 list, the Goldstar coupon pushed it over the edge.
Now, I had no idea what to expect based on my friends' reviews which seemed to imply it'd be an evening of loud noise. Personally, I like my music the louder the better, so I was confident we'd be able to appreciate it for the "artistically creative music" that it is. What I was joyfully amused by was the audience interaction, the humor (without saying a word, mind you), and their creativity!
When we got there we knew we were in for an adventure when the front rows had ponchos on and we were all handed bright yellow paper tape to "decorate" ourselves as we'd like. As a family of music lovers, it was so cool to be able to SEE the music as they played the drums and the reverb caused the paint to splash everywhere. One lucky audience member got to take a painting home. I don't want to share a lot of the details because you deserve to be surprised as well. Just when you think they've topped themselves, they take it one step further.
The show played to every emotion too from sympathy for the underdogs to building powerful energy as the drum beats gained speed, to the sweet yet sick antics they played out on stage! Gross yet tasteful humor RULES for the kids!
Our Three-Thumb review is 3 Thumbs way up, pulsating to the beat! My 10 yo daughter was charmed by their personalities and wowed by their rhythmic skills. My teenage son almost lost his mind when the show really brought down the house. I loved the escape from the Strip and into a world where anything fun and surprising could happen!
Just 2 months later, by coincidence, my son is in New York on a student tour and what show will they be seeing over there? The Blue Man show! He is not in disappointed in the least to be seeing them again so soon and cannot wait! The Beat goes on!
