  • I'm biased towards this museum because it's on my afternoon walk route, so I go often and randomly. With that said, it really is a great institution and holds its own against the Carnegies, whom I equally love. It's small, not sprawling. You can easily get through it in an hour or two. The actual Frick collection is always free, but the Clayton house, events and exhibits require a fee. It is all worth visiting though. The grounds include the main museum, where some of the Frick family art collection is housed and various rotating exhibits are featured. There's the fantastic carriages and cars collection (very cool), a greenhouse, a cafe, the children's playhouse, and beautiful grounds where parties and weddings are held. There's of course the Clayton house which is where the Frick family resided. The cafe serves lunch and dinner, they also have a tea service on the weekends, which I regret never trying. They do a dinner at the Frick series, certain times of the year I believe. I've never eaten at the Frick, so I can't comment on the food. It's a cozy museum, which is how I can best describe it. You definitely feel the history that surrounds this famous family. There's also the Frick Collection in NYC, which I look forward to seeing. Sign up on their email list so you can be privy to events and get invited to exhibits at a discounted price or even free! Was able to see Irving Penn Beyond Beauty for free, and before that Killer Heels at a discount through a UPMC offer. It's tucked away in a residential area, and across from Frick Park.
