| - Love, love, love this place.
Went here for lunch with the SO at the recommendation of a friend. We were expecting a restaurant, so we were a bit put off but the limited selection seating. There's a bar, one really long, kind of communal-like table, and a few tables tucked in back. We were seated a one of the tables in back fairly quickly, after being greeted by the bar tender and given the choice of bar or table.
We were also a little underwhelmed at the menu. The selection is pretty slim, but we decided to give it a try since we were already here. We both ordered drinks, mine was the hot chocolate which came a little stronger than I would have preferred (but that's a good complaint to have in my opinion!) and my SO had the Irish coffee (I believe his was also a little stronger than he expected).
We had the poutine as an appetizer, and both chose a sandwich, though I don't remember what we got specifically now. I liked the poutine, my SO, who is French Canadian said it was 'passable'. Our sandwiches were the real show stopper though. So, so, good! Alongside their homemade, thick cut chips, this was one of the best meals I have had in Madison, to date.
Our server (unfortunately I forget her name) was also absolutely amazing. She had one table of about 8 - 10, and a few smaller tables including ours. She never once missed a beat. Our glasses of water were always full, she checked back a time or two while we were deciding what to order, and chatted pleasantly with us about the food. We were so impressed with her we grabbed a manager and told him what a great job she was doing. He told us she wasn't even scheduled today, she was the only person able to come in when two of the staff called in sick. She never once seemed annoyed or flustered to have her hands full on her day off.
So, despite not really being what we were expecting, we were above and beyond satisfied with our experience.
