There aren't many (if any) HK cafes in Toronto outside of Chinatown. As a fan of the Phoenix Cafes uptown, I was excited to discover that they have opened a location downtown, and in such an accessible area.
The layout of this cafe is cafeteria style: you place and purchase your order at the front and receive a buzzer that alerts you when your order is ready to be picked up. Orders are served in disposable dinnerware.
Although still lengthy, the menu here is much smaller than their other locations but carry the popular dishes, my favourite being the Malaysian curry with roti and Hainanese Chicken. Portions seems smaller here than uptown (or maybe I was just confused by the curry served in a paper-like bowl) and there doesnt appear to be the typical meal combos found at HK cafes.
Not a bad option given its convenient location but definitely not your typical HK cafe experience.
