My boyfriend has been raving about Row House Cinemas for months now, and since I really appreciate theaters that play cult films rather than current releases I couldn't wait to check it out. We finally made it here for a movie this weekend, and I must say it was a very nice experience! We were able to walk in and purchase tickets from the snack counter on the theater side (Lawrenceville residents get a discount) and then browse the beer selection in the neighboring Atlas Bottle Works while waiting for the movie to start. I enjoyed seeing the staff picks and custom six pack gift sets displayed everywhere. It definitely made me want to come back and make some fun and unique purchases! There is also a new lower level with more beer choices that apparently just opened, and I loved it. The extra space felt like it was needed since the crowd got a little larger as the showtime approached.
The entire staff was friendly and on top of everything for the most part, but I will say it seemed like having one more person on hand would have been helpful. Things got a little chaotic in the rush between the movie that played before ours letting out and the staff trying to both serve a new crowd and clean the theater so we could sit down and clear out the lobby area. Overall it was a very minor hiccup in an otherwise stellar evening, and I'm sure the longer this place is open the better the system for handling crowds will be. Row House is a welcome addition to the Pittsburgh film scene and a wonderful alternative to The Manor in terms of smaller local cinemas. I'm already looking forward to their vampire series at the end of the month!
