| - A touch of Thai? Seems more like a full-grope fondle if you ask me since they serve nothing but Thai food at this strip mall restaurant off Bell Road in north Phoenix. I sometimes come down to our office down here for meetings, and since I have a reputation for being a San Francisco foodie, i.e., snob, they fret over where to take me for lunch. I've been driven here twice now, and I have to say the Thai food is solid stuff in the journeyman way it's prepared. Gee, that did sound like a snot wrote that, didn't it? I can't deny who I am, can I?
Anyhow, I've always been here during the all-important lunch hour from 11AM to 2:30PM to take advantage of the Lunch Special menu. After all, each special is "served with soup, eggroll and fried wonton" (photo: http://bit.ly/2nYn8U9). What more do you want in the sweltering heat of Phoenix? First came the Thai Cabbage Soup, a hearty cupful of chicken broth, shredded cabbage and sliced celery that reminded me more of Dublin than Bangkok save for the aggressive dousing of Thai chile sauce I gave it (photo: http://bit.ly/2mGcz80).
My entree was the Gang Ga-Ree Gai, the classic Thai yellow curry dish with chicken, carrots, and potatoes (photo: http://bit.ly/2nlBA5y). The base of the dish is the spicy coconut milk that appeared to have thickened to a stew-like consistency from the potatoes in particular. It was a milder curry than most, probably a good thing since I was boarding a flight in a couple of hours and don't need to be a belching machine in coach. The scoop of rice was essential, the egg roll and fried won ton far less so. Still I'd come back for another touch of Thai as long as I'm not molested.
FOOD - 3 stars...good Thai yellow curry that has the basics right, the rest needs work
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...definitely enough room
SERVICE - 3.5 stars...they moved quickly and without intrusion
TOTAL - 3 stars...the curry is worth getting here
