| - Sadly, NYNY it more impressive on the outside than it is on the inside. We called the day before to see about early check in. "Oh, yeah. Happens all the time. Come when you need to." So we went from our last hotel to NYNY, arriving at noon on a random Wednesday. Of course our room was not ready, not unless we wanted to pay the same price we would have for our Jacuzzi room in exchange for a newly clean, yet un-renovated and smoking room. Ah, Vegas logic. They told us to check back with them in an hour as we watched countless other parties get the keys to their rooms. Of course an hour later our room was still not ready, and after going through these motions for three more hours we finally got in our room at 4:30.
Our Jacuzzi room was decent, with a fair view of the roller coaster at the hotel, the pool, and a ton of parking lots. The TV only received about 5 basic cable channels, weak in comparison to my bunny ears at home, or even the 6 NYNY channels promoting itself and its lousy shows. We ordered a movie since there was nothing on TV, but it's quality was equally static-driven and fuzzy. Waste of money, as was the $13/day Internet access code.
Since there was no safe we didn't want the housekeepers to clean our room; they were kind (or annoying?) enough to call us and ask if we want them to come and clean anyway. I though that's what the sign was for?
The pool was decent, especially if you arrive before the high-noon sun, otherwise there is no shade. You can watch the rollercoaster to your hearts content fly over you heads all day long from your pool lounge chair. Thankfully there aren't a ton of screaming kids running around or hookers with butt-baring skirts trying to sell you beer. The pop-music played at top volume at the pool can get a little annoying after awhile, though.
Another thing that annoyed me is the décor of this place. I don't think they every made a final decision of what kind of theme they were going for - 30's New York flare or pretty pink flowers as seen in the room décor? Personally I would have gone with simple black and white photography and run road signs, but what do I know?
Stay at NYNY if: You have kids who crave an arcade (though there are sketchy Zumanity ads everywhere); if you love an Irish pub; if you want to watch the roller coaster all day long (though the Bellagio fountain show is much more entertaining); you are on a budget (in exchange for quality).
Don't stay at NYNY if: you have been to NY and want to relive the experience; you want value at a low price; if uncoordinated resort themes bother you at all.
