| - I hesitate writing this review because everyone is entitled to an 'off' day. But, I think its valuable to a company and their clients to be honest regarding first impressions. Before I go any further, I will say that I plan on returning and am hopeful that my experience will be better.
I brought my pet in for the first time as we were wanting to establish ourselves with a vet.The "nurse" came in and asked, "So you're here for vaccinations?" I told her, no that I wanted to establish ourselves with a vet and I would like my pet to have a full exam. They had these nifty pamphlets that explained three different pet plans that offered comprehensive pet care and I told her I may be interested in one of those (thinking she would explain each of them, discuss my pets' needs and my expectations, leading to an informed decision). But, she non-nonchalantly said, "You're gonna want the ___ plan. I'll go get the vaccinations ready and come back for your pet." And with that she walked out the door leading into their clinic area. Ten minutes later, she took my pet and led her into the clinic area.
At this point I'm thinking, Why havent they asked me any questions? Who and where is the doctor? Why aren't they doing the exam in the exam room with me?
Luckily there is a small window into the clinic area from the exam room that I was able to look through and see what was going on. Through the window I could see kennels along two sides, a counter (looks like a kitchen island) with various verterinarian potions on one half of it. My pet was taken just to the other side of it so I couldn't see her but could still see the tech leaning and bending down toward my dog. Thats also when I noticed the actual vet walk by, say something to the tech and then they both started working on my pet. They reached for the fecal tester-thinger, then picked her up and put her on that table thinger while they drew blood, then brought her back down to the floor to administer the vaccinations. Here's where another oddity occurred. So, as I mentioned, the kennels. There was only one dog in the kennel and he was in the bottom corner kennel closest to my exam door. When my dog was brought down from the table, they set her right outside this other dog's kennel. Yay for me, I got a better view, but my dog was completely distracted by the kenneled dog and kept turning in its direction (probably 6 inches in front of kenneled dog). I thought to meself that the whole "exam" appeared unroutine; like it was their first time ever doing this or had to make due with cramped quarters even though the clinic area wasnt small AND I was in the EXAM room complete with table, swabs, treats, looking in on my dog in another room. Seemed weird.
After they were done, the doctor came in with my pooch and said, "Everything looks real good She's the perfect weight and she seems real healthy."
My thought: 'Hi my name is Dr. So-N-So.....How are you doing today...Thanks for coming in....You have a real cute dog......' -anything along those lines. It's called, bedside manner. I would have appreciated some sort of personable conversation that made me feel good about my pet and my choice to drop $--- on an annual pet wellness program. I was asked if I had any concerns and we discussed food and that sort of thing for a solid 7 minutes and then it was, "Well, so-n-so will get you checked out up front." And with that, we walked out.
The front desk gal was kind and professional. I asked her 3-5 questions about what was included in the wellness program I just bought and she answered all of them.
I just left feeling like if I hadnt asked questions, I wouldnt know what was going on, which was a bit unsettling.
My dog is like my child and I didn't like not being with her to comfort her while strangers poked and prodded. I didnt like that I couldn't see if the exam was thorough since she was behind a counter (Were her eyes, ears, and mouth checked? I couldnt tell ya) I didnt like that none of the office staff, doctor included, introduced themselves to me or made me feel that my
business was appreciated or that they were happy to meet my pretty pooch, or they were at all interested in developing a long lasting relationship for veterinary care.
So, that was my first impression and perhaps the next visit will be exponentially different. I hope so and would be happy to update this review if that's the case.
