| - When we first bought our new house in Shannon Park late last summer, the first thing we had to figure out was our neighborhood dinner options. Just down the street we have solid old Lang Van, but one cannot survive on garlic tofu alone. Plaza-Midwood is just a stone's throw away, but always seems so crowded and chock full of douchebags. (I am getting old.) Then we remembered Foskoskies! Man, how we wanted to love Foskoskies. The menu was quaint, and the patio was a secret garden, and it was right around the corner next to our small, local pharmacy! ...And the service was spotty, and the food was inconsistent, and then they lost their alcohol license. When the doors closed, it was almost a relief to not have to try so hard to like the place anymore. Then came Letty's. In the handful of times we've been by for a weeknight dinner, the food has been simple, honest, and good, the portions large, the service excellent, and the atmosphere very, very welcoming. The owner is attentive, engaged, and entertaining. Our server remembered our drink order after the first visit. It's not gourmet, hip, or trendy, but Letty's is shaping up to be everything Foskoskies wasn't for us: a friendly neighborhood hangout.
