  • I have been very happy with the expanse and success of breweries in Charlotte. Sugar Creeks location was pivotal to this, as it was OMB's originally site. Luckily when OMB moved down the street to their monstrous site, Sugar Creek came in! The tap room is very nice, some light renovations since OMB to seating and the nice bar area provides a good ambiance. The large glass windows allow you to see into the brewing area, with Hops, barley, and oats in jars across the railing for your inspection while you drink the nectar they helped create. The food is pretty decent, considering it's a brewery first, exponentially better than OMB's food. They have a wonderful outdoor area with the coolest Fire Pit Cauldron you've ever seen, as well with a newer side venue of tables and small bar area for the summer. They have a large private event room, but I think it gets under-utilized and could be a great addition to public area. Staff is fine - nothing spectacular, and the bartenders were unable to provide good feedback on the beer before we tried other than "I really like that one" or "I don't like IPAs." The important part now - the beer! OMB Copper is my beer of choice, that being said, I don't think anything else they brew is good. Sugar Creek has a wide selection of exotic brews, it keeps their line-up fresh, including a Dubel, and solid IPA, and a easy drinking White ale. I am lucky to have Harris Teeter's successful 201 central Wine and Beer store near me, where Sugar Creek provides beer tastings and freshly bottled beers for my take home pleasure. They also brew new beers often, which is nice. What Sugar Creek lacks is a flagship beer that you remember - I know OMB Copper, I know DreamChasers Yard Breather, I know Lenny Boy kombucha (and I hate it!). They do have a nice venue, good selection of quality beers, and a surprisingly good food selection - the salad I had was fresh and grilled cheese my wife ate was cheesy and buttery! It's not a 5-star restaurant, but it's good to grab a bite to eat with some beer!
