  • We were visiting Las Vegas a few weeks ago when my dog suddenly got violently ill. We were frantically calling every vet we could find, trying to get someone to agree to see him because he could not stop pooping everywhere. We didn't even care about the damage being done to our room. Craig Road was the first hospital we reached who not only could see him right then, but didn't dismiss our concerns as "wait it out." They understood that being an older dog with epilepsy from another state put him in a particularly vulnerable state. It's a good thing we went in; turns out my poor little guy somehow managed to catch giardia, which is a disgusting parasite that has to do with fecal matter. You read that right. Fecal. matter. I'm not totally clear on the details, because gross. But a round of antibiotics and some bland food later, my little guy was on the road to recovery. I appreciate that Dr. Murphy was so thorough, patient, and thoughtful. My concerns were heard and validated; he understood I was stressed out about my dog and didn't even give me the stink eye when I burst into tears over hearing he had giardia. He took his time, and I appreciated that for as long as we had been made to wait to see him, he gave that time back to us at the end. He made me feel like a person, rather than a number, and even as he understood he would likely never see me or my dog again, he still treated us like we were the most important people in his office. I think my vet back home is pretty great, but I appreciate knowing that my annual trips to Las Vegas do have an option for any health needs that might arise for my dog when we're away from home.
