I really wanted to give this place 3 stars, but me and the bf left unhappy. So, maybe a 2.75.
Bar Masa was listed on the Resturant week 2011 so my BF really wanted try one of Chef Masa Takayama's restaurants! Yelpers did a great job with the pictures. The layout of this resturant was of course different and unique. It didn't really feel that comfortable though.
The staff were friendly, welcoming, could have been more attentive (maybe they were for others, but surely not for us lol) It took 30 minutes just to get our appetizer. He got the Aji Shiso Tataki with Ginger Soy and I got Nasu Dengaku (egg plant) I really enjoyed my eggplant.
It took almost 45 minutes to get our entree. During that time period we were noticing people getting in AFTER us and surely getting their food faster. We did order 2 300ml bottles of Pure Dusk sake. It was recommended by our waitor. So, we drank while were getting annoyed at times watching everybody get their food. We were just starving. We were curious if our waitor was attentive enough to notice we weren't getting our food and wondered if he was proactive enough to get it checked on.
Once we got our entree, they forgot to give me my rice on time to go with my kobe steak. I did get it after I started eating, which was a waste. That got me much more annoyed.
For dessert we got the Miso Creme Brûlée. I didn't even taste any Miso. Out of this whole experience the Sesame seed Ice Cream was awesome! I was amazed it tasted just like it.
The waiter did give us a local discount, which was very nice of him.
I'm not sure if I would ever come back. Only if its for a special occassion.
