| - The Weary Traveler earned it's wings as a neighborhood watering hole and restaurant by being many things to many people. This was accomplished by creating a friendly, if somewhat chaotic atmosphere during it's busy periods, complete with board games, different sized tables and a generally competent staff. Having said that, know that this place is capable of making mistakes with regard to "exact" food orders, and you will occasionally interact with an inattentive bar tender or a server with a flat personality. But this is the exception rather than the rule. Also know that on nights when there is a popular show at the Barrymore, or even downtown, you will need to arrive early to get a table. Madison's near east siders have a lemming like quality when it comes to descending on popular bars, and The Weary now qualifies as such. As to the food, there is a range of options which one must explore on repeat trips to get the full impact. The popular Bad Breath Burger is good enough, though it's size and generally imposing quality should be considered a commitment to all but the truly hungry diner. Other items range in price, size, nutritional value and consistency (tip: the potatoes are often served at room temperature, as they are likely pre-made in batches). Suffice it to say, if you like it the first time, you'll probably be back.
