  • The only time I had set foot in Bonterra was for a rehearsal dinner "after party" so I knew the space was beautiful, albeit a bit hoity toity, but I had never had the opportunity to dine there. That's when our good friend Charlotte Queen's Feast comes along, to ensure the peasants can dine like the nobles twice a year. The service was friendly, prompt and professional. I began with the Salt and Pepper Calamari as my first course. Although I did not detect any Asian spices (as described on the menu), the calamari was very flavorful and crispy. I enjoyed my first course, however in comparison to my dining companions' first courses, it was at least twice as large. I was worried that my entrée would be enormous, so in an effort to conserve my appetite, I only ate about half of it. For my entrée, I chose the scallops with a low country succotash. I thought the dish was fantastic, only I wish there had been more of it! Two scallops were not enough, especially considering I had only eaten half of my first course. I chose the molten chocolate cake as my dessert. It was good, but not extraordinary. I had similar sentiments about the rum raisin bread pudding as well. Good flavor, just a little dry and lacking a certain oomph. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed this dining experience and would return. My main critique is that the portion sizes were inconsistent, which I found that to be super distracting!
