| - I'm a bit torn about how I feel about Cosmo. For the most part, it's a pretty damn nice property. Read on for details.
After watching it slowly get built over the years each time I visited Vegas, I got more and more curious as to how it would turn out; it's construction itself is a roller coaster of a story in that it nearly didn't get built due to the project running out of money *stuff that you don't care about but I'm telling you anyways* But at last, it opened and I anxiously awaited my opportunity to stay at probably the most glitzy and tacky hotel on the Strip. My chance finally arrived earlier this year.
Parking is around the CityCenter so we all know how that goes -- hope your gambling hot streak begins as soon as you pull onto Las Vegas Blvd because you're gonna either have to know where to go exactly or be incredibly lucky. Walking in, I have to admit I was pretty dazzled at how obnoxious the decor was -- it's loud, it sparkles...hell, it might even make your eyes bleed. But look at what city you're in -- it works and it is impressive, even if your corneas get burned.
Check-in was a breeze; the columns with the shadowy people is a little creepy. Kinda wish they changed that as that was not sexy at all to me...more like creeperish. And I'm a dude. Anywho, we had a wraparound suite which was just sized perfectly for 4 adults. Decor was a bit more downtempo than downstairs; definitely pretty funky. It also was clean, so fortunately I didn't feel like I was gonna contract an STD when I sat down on one of the couches. They also had a leather lounger by the balcony door which was amazing and I want one for my bedroom. The master bed was very nice as was the shower, but doesn't offer much privacy. Secondary bath was just as nice albeit smaller, of course. The kitchenette is pretty boss and you could easily kick back and cook all your dinners yourself if you so desired (but why would you when you're surrounded by all the great eats???). Our view wasn't the best, but we did get an offcenter view of the Fountains from a corner suite facing northwest. I'm afraid of heights so I didn't spend too much time on the balcony other than quickly peeking out and running back in; we were in the 40s for floor level so staying out there for very long was a "hell no."
Location is pretty good in terms of being central, layout isn't too weird or anything, staff is nice...my only real quip with the hotel is the relatively small casino floor. I like me some space when I'm tossing dice and it's cramped in here, especially around all the pit games. Yah, I know...Cosmo was supposed to be condos only so they weren't going to even build a casino but still...it's there now and the space sucks.
We also ate at Scarpetta (reviewed separately) and the buffet ain't too shabby. Didn't check out the other amenities (pool, spa, etc.) but I can say Cosmo is up there in terms of LV strip ranking; another reason for taking off a star is the pricing -- a tad too high, even by Vegas standards. Is Cosmo the best? Certainly not...but if you can get in a room at a decent rate, I doubt you'll be complaining too much.
