| - The Tale of Two Cakes. OK...it starts like this....I ordered 2 round cakes on line for pick up on 12/30 at 10am from Smiths in Las Vegas off of Charleston. All white cake, white whip frosting, no lettering, no fancy stuff, just 2 white cakes. Because I ordered them on line, I decided to follow up in store on 12/28. That is when the shit show begins. I approached the Bakery, I spoke with Chelsea. I told her that I was checking up on my on line order and she looked at me like I was from Mars. She said they had no idea what I was talking about and they had no such order. So I asked to speak to a manager and I was told that the manager wasn't there. Chelsea said that since the manager wasn't there, that no one had gone through the emails and on line orders. I suggested to her that maybe that should have been the first thing she told me. She then began to argue with me in a super condescending voice. I then asked for the store manager and asked her to quit speaking to me. She was RUDE, ARGUMENTATIVE, and SUPER DISRESPECTFUL. I mentioned that these cakes were for my sons wedding and that he was on leave from the Army, and she said "why should I care about that" and continued to argue about the cakes. Then Amanda, an assistant manager approached me and I told her how rude and unprofessional miss Chelsea was and she basically did nothing but defend her rude and unprofessional attitude. I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. I mentioned if she was my kid, she would be slapped. Then Chelsea said I threatened her. WHAT??? I then said to her that she should be fired. I went to make my purchase of another item, and I asked the clerk at the register if the bakery was union. She said yes and I told her of course they were...that is why she was able to talk to me like that, she had the union as a safety net. The clerk was very kind and apologetic and suggested I talk to the corporate people that just so happened to be in the store! So I spoke with Steven, who was the regional grocery manager and he was very apologetic as well and gave me the corporate 800 number to call. I called the number, filed my complaint and was told that someone would follow up with me. No one did. In the meantime my future daughter in law called the store to find out why I was treated so rudely. She spoke to Amanda and basically was blown off. She did ask Amanda why we should continue to do business with Smiths and didn't get an answer. My husband went in the store on that Friday night and spoke with the customer service manager and she said that the cakes were going to be ready on time with no hassle because everyone in the store was aware of the situation. OK....Part 2...We went into the store to pick up the cakes, and low and behold....NO CAKES! We said we were there to pick up the cakes, the bakery clerk immediately paged the store manager. He approached us and said that he wasn't involved and proceeded to call up Amanda. Amanda informed me, in a very condescending tone, that my daughter in law canceled the cake order. WHAT? She never canceled the order, and if she did.....it was up to her to call ME, the person who placed the order, to confirm. When I asked her why she didn't do that, she rolled her eyes. She said that wasn't her job. She actually was arguing with me right in front of Tom the store manager!! And he ALLOWED HER HORRIFIC BEHAVIOR!!! By this time, my voice was elevated and firm. At no time was I yelling, but Tom the store manager, asked me to lower my voice. I asked him why?...other customers should hear what a horrifying experienced we were having. Tom then proceeded to demand that I calm down in a loud and threatening voice, and my husband said to him "Do not to talk to my wife like that". It was obvious there was no accountability and no remorse for the horrible treatment....and the store manager promotes disrespectful behavior toward customers from his employees to take place. So, from that point, I said OK we need 2 white cakes. I picked a pre-made one out and asked that another be made, and they proceeded to fill the order. I finally had the cakes, and was not charged. I told Tom the store manager, that his lack of professionalism was appalling. All he could do was say uh huh, and pretty much escorted us out of the store. I have never experienced in my 57 years on this planet such a horrifying experience in a customer service atmosphere. If this is the standard of employees that Smiths hires, then I want a job there. I want a job where I can get paid union wages to treat customers like shit....treat customers like I am superior...Treat customers like I am doing them a favor by helping them while they are giving me money...Treat customers with disrespect and rudeness. I want a job like that really bad. I want a job where I have no accountability...Where I don't have be professional....Where I can lie and do as I please...Where I can argue with customers. I think I will be applying at Smiths.
