  • Wow! I just had to apologize for mildly defending myself, or else be stuck in Yuma & miss my Phoenix flight. Fortunately, it occurred to me that genuflection was the key before it was too late. My punishment for not bowing down enough would have been quite severe! Short version- the driver could have just said "Oops, you owe me another $15 for the bag. Then we'll be good. Have a nice day." Instead she chose to make me regret ever booking a ride on Greyhound! Long version... I reserved a ticket online & printed it out. This was the return trip, so I went to the bus stop where I had been dropped off a few days earlier. I thought it odd that there was no station there, but I'm not an experienced Greyhound rider (THANK GOD), so I just assumed the town was too small for a building. When I handed my printed ticket to the driver, she told me in an unpleasant & dismissive tone (which she later described as her "nice" behavior) that I was supposed to have gone to the terminal building first, and that I owed $15 for my extra bag. I expressed mild frustration, and she said "don't you start swearing!" We debated for a short time whether I should have known about the invisible station or not. Then I asked if I could give HER the $15. She said I could, so I did. That could have been the end of it, but... She felt it necessary to continue to rudely point out that it was entirely my fault for not discovering their odd set-up when I ordered online, and I was foolish enough to engage. I didn't swear, or even raise my voice. I simply said that I didn't think it was described well online. She then rebuked me for my tone of voice. I said "so you can talk to me any way you want, but..." That's when she told me that she'd started out talking "nice"... and thrust the $15 (and her authority) back at me, and making it clear that she was perfectly happy ruining my day because I didn't properly "respect" her authority. I bit my tongue and said "I apologize". Then she let me pay for the extra bag & get on the bus. She had to know I didn't mean it, but fortunately it was enough that I let her "win". I don't know if she hates her job, or she's having a bad day, or if she's just a miserable human being. But she's sure not encouraging me to ever want to ride Greyhound again! (I've checked my ticket, and been all over Google and the Greyhound website, btw, and I still can't figure out where the station is.)
