| - For as long as I can remember, living in Richmond Hill has meant going to Richmond Green for one thing or another. For years it was were winter tryouts for the Richmond Hill Phoenix baseball rep team was held, and it was the only place in York Region where you could play indoor soccer in the winter months. My favorite was that it was the "cool" spot for summer sports camp.
These main stays along with a host of others have not changed over the past 20+ years (wow I am getting hella-old), but everything else around it HAS changed. Several years back the Town of Richmond Hill added an abundance of soccer and baseball diamonds, added beautiful landscaping, a Library, a High school and an Ice Hockey arena.
A long time hang out for my group of friends and I this has been and continues to be the premiere outdoor sports and is rapidly growing into the best park in York Region (potentially the entire GTA). Here is a "short list" of the amenities you can find here these days:
- Acropolis/band shell
- baseball/softball fields
- soccer/football fields
- Summer splash pad for the kids
- basketball courts
- skate park
- roller/street hockey enclosed outdoor arena
- indoor ice hockey arena
- beautiful walking trails that border man made conservation areas
- an outdoor waterfall, beautiful gardens, pond/conservation area perfect for wedding photos
- who can forget that this space is ideal for events and festivals such as Ribfests and the annual Canada Day Fireworks special (a must see every July 1)
Following the landscaping overhall, which transformed empty soccer and farm fields into a viable park, the only thing lacking is mature trees however with the number that have been planted and are in sapling form still, in 15 years this place promises to be a York Region landscape that will rival the bigger metro parks across Canada and the US.
Keep your eye on this spot Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall Richmond Green offers endless opportunities for getting together with family or friends.
