  • Well, I put off seeing this show for years because of awful reviews, but got free tickets and went, despite warnings that it wasn't even worth my time. So, I tried to be open minded and went. Anyone expecting a Cirque show will be so sadly disappointed. It's nothing but a magic show with Cirque budget and design. I've worked in magic before (I'm not a magician, but a backstage technician,) so none of the magic was impressive to me. A few items were even embarrassingly bad, especially the ones clearly ripped off from David Copperfield's show, like a prediction hung in a box above the stage, and a person being sawed in half with a giant buzz saw. Clearly, Angel could use a dose of originality in his ideas. The most uncomfortable part of the show was when Criss called a young man onstage. A 14 year old boy came up, and was promptly the butt of at least 10 boner jokes. I am a hip 20 something, and can handle F-bombs and other bad language, but I really don't think anyone is interested in laughing at a 14 year old's erection. His parents were even in the audience. I felt awful for him! Cirque certainly put together an impressive lobby and showroom for Mr. Angel. The lobby is basically a museum of Criss's props and motorcycles. It's well designed. The show room is beautiful, and the stage is dressed with sweeping red curtains and a beautiful golden proscenium. I am sure Cirque is already dreaming of what can go into this space once their contract with Criss Angel has expired.
