| - I've been to this museum almost every month since moved to Phoenix about a year ago. They have free admissions with voluntary donation every Wednesday from 3-9 pm when they close. It's also free on First Fridays, and a couple of other days during the month. I've usually gone by myself to catch it on a Wednesday night right before it closes. Parking is free, in the corner of Central Ave. & McDowell.
I have to admit, I've been impressed every time I've gone! Since I'm always coming right before they close, unfortunately, I've never been able to walk through the entire museum all during one visit. However, my experience here has been great. I like to go later since there are less people and I'm able to spend more time in different exhibits without having too many people around me.
My favorite installations so far has been Martin Creed's "Half the Air in a Given Space." Unfortunately, it ended in December 2016. I also really enjoy Yayoi Kusama's "You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies," which is a permanent installment at this museum. They have bigger versions of this installation in LA and NYC, and I think the programming of the lights is a bit different, but I still enjoy it every single time.
Overall, I love this art museum and will keep coming back as long as I live in Phoenix. If you're visiting the area, this is a definite must if museums are your thing (or even if they're not - this one is worth checking out in DT PHX).
