| - The Emergency room experience was amazing. Absolutely everyone was point on, efficient and informed. I thought ,wow, this place exceeds its excellent reputation. The only exception was a female pa who came in, turned off the TV without saying anything and turned the lights on bright even though I told her I had a very bad headache and the light made it worse. My next stop was the sixth floor. Not quite the same degree of excellence. The very young nurses were carrying on a conversation and I appeared to be an afterthought. One of them told me to do something 3 times,so rapidly that I did not have time to comply. At that point I told her that I had had a very rough day and did not appreciate the way she was speaking to me. I had arrived at the hospital around 10 am and had nothing to eat all day. When I got to the room there was a tray on the table. It was almost an hour before the food was offered to me. I said it was cold, her response was that it had my name on it. Nothing to eat that night. I was then moved to the 3 rd floor. I was in considerable pain by this time. I had spoken with the doctor earlier regarding pain and sleep medication. The nurse apparently knew more than the doctor as she argued with me regarding my medication. I was exhausted, very ill and didn't have the energy to debate the situation. I spent what had to be one of the most uncomfortable nights of my life. As soon as other people came in I spoke with a supervisor of some sort and the nurse's attitude changed and she became much less argumentative and much more helpful At this time I was moved to what I believe was the 8th floor. Pain pills and polite nurses! I slept most of the day to make up for my night in uncomfort. Total turn around. It was as though I was back in the emergency room. Everyone super helpful, kind and compassionate. Like a different hospital from the 3rd and 6th floors. I can't even name all the superb caretakers. Mellissa,Dan, Meribel and several others. I wish I could name all of them. My most excellent Doctor through all of this was Dr Vance. Amazingly helpful, knowledgeable, informative and most importantly, totally on top of my care. Hard to review this hospital as it was so opposite depending on the floor. 3rd and 6th floors, no stars. Emergency floor and 8th floor, 10 stars. Amazing. When I had to go to the hospital and realized I was going to the Mayo Clinic I thought "wow, what luck". After my night on the 3rd floor I thought it was the worst hospital experience ever. In short, the bad in this place was unbelievably bad. The good was amazingly good. If I have to go to a hospital again I would definitely hope to come here but would pray not to get those bad apples that are here.
Now, the room service food. That's another story. Literally inedible. The only decent thing I have had was an egg and bacon sandwich. I was also starving by the time I finally got my first food on my second day. Then my second meal was a tough pork chop. It literally could not be cut with the butter knife I was provided. Then pancakes and sausage. Sausage just barely warmed. The pancakes were batter that had been warmed enough to kind of solidify but not actually cooked. Disgusting. Next soggy spaghetti served with what appeared to be plain no seasoning tomato sauce. With a side of over cooked asparagus. Add a couple soggy salads. I honestly cannot believe anyone tasted this food before it was sent out. If it was tasted the person had no taste buds. On the bright side in the in the almost 3 days I have been here I have lost over 12 pounds. Not from lack of trying to eat on my part! I have been hungry!
Thank you Mayo Clinic for the great care I received when I was receiving great care.
Please visit the 3rd and 6th floors and the cafeteria and bring them up to your reputation
