Not a big deal, but we had some time to kill and thought it might be fun to tour the Ethel Mars chocolate factory. It's actually quite small. The prices are criminal!! Seriously, Ethel M would not have wanted it this way. They should be doing folks a favor and give discounts, not price gouging--this is Henderson, not Vegas!
Anyway, you can see the workers really actually making the chocolate and putting it into boxes...pretty cool. It is decorated very nicely with tons of chocolate options to buy. They were even giving out a free sample to customers (only one piece-- I asked for another and was told "no").
One thing that I recommend that you do here is the chocolate "tasting" room. It is I think about $15 per person (you get 4 chocolates to try) but there is a Yelp! discount available for $10 per person (thanks Yelpers!). You have a private tasting with one of the "chocolatiers" which explains the history and origin of chocolate and the Ethel Mars company. They give you a sheet of flavors broken into categories and you guess what you are eating. Did you know there is actually a proper way to eat chocolate? It begins by smelling the chocolate, then rubbing it with your finger to release the aroma, etc. It is actually quite a process, as I and everyone I know has always just "eaten" it. The tasting room is an experience that I won't forget.
Outside is a large garden type area if you're into local vegetation. I remember seeing a Joshua tree and that there are planes going into Vegas going directly over your head every few minutes.
