  • If you've ever been to Morels in Los Angeles at the Grove, you'll be suprised. Morels in Vegas is much bigger in every way, from the menu to their digs in the relatively new Palazzo hotel on the Strip. The service (crappy attitude, but more on that later) is generally good and so is the food. I would say the food is actually very good. Be sure to try their steaks and seafood. All that said...... Yes, I am the asshole that is going to give this place a one star. Was it one bad night? Probably. In this case I'm just not going to forgive. I'm taking the contrarian, glass half empty view, they-didn't-care-about-me-so-fuck-you kind of attitude. I've been to plenty of great places, and I'm a great customer to those that "get it" and know how to serve, especially when they charge top dollar. I was there with a total of three people. All of their wait staff seemed to be pretty responsive, and attractive to boot. Our waiter was charismatic. Too bad we didn't have a female. At issue is that my friends and I were going to order entrees with a little bit of an appetizer to get us going. And that's where our waiter came in. He basically started **selling** us on the big appetizer platter. That it'd be good, it'd be perfect for the three of us, that we'd enjoy it... A real sell job. It got to the point that I started thinking, I wonder what I can afford as a monthly payment... And where do I sign the lease papers before this dumbshit has to go back to "talk" with his "manager"? It was THAT bad. We thought, fine. Let's get past this. It's generally good to trust your waiter for recommendations, right? We go for the appetizer platter. The sommelier stops by to assist with their very extensive wine list. Again, a sell job. The sommelier is having us go through the $400+ list. This guy is selling pretty hard. We instead go for a bottle from the regular list that's a little lighter on the wallet. Appetizer comes in on a cart with three waiters to set it up. Holy shit! Appetizer alone is a frickin meal and a half. All great quality, but just complete overload. Since we trusted the waiter on his advice, we do courteously inform that it was just too much. His response? Eh, that sucks. Just eat as much as possible. So we struggle through the massive appetizer platter. Then our main courses come. Again, fantastic food, but just WAY too much. As we're going through the meal, the armies of wait staff zoom by our tables. I overhear from a few, how they sold this expensive dish or that bottle of $1,000 alchohol.... So everything put together I'm thoroughly pissed. I'm feeling like we were completely fleeced by this waiter. Food was really good though, we just had nowhere to put all of it. The waiter had the nerve to ask us about desserts after we had made it perfectly clear throughout the meal that the food quanitity was insanely too much. And the bill for three, all in with gratuity ended up being a little over $600. My advice if you do come here: 1) Know the menu beforehand and what you want to order, 2) Don't get fucked by the waitstaff's "advice". They're in it to make a buck, not take your dining interest to heart. Bon appetit.
