| - Well, it had to happen -- my air conditioning went out on a scorcher Vegas day and I instantly got that deep-gut anxiety at facing a $1,100 repair bill. Plus I was selling my house and the A/C had to be working... no way I could put it off and just sweat it out.
First thing I did was open the cover to see if it was something obvious -- maybe I could fix it myself. Sure enough, a small cylindrical part was totally burned out, which was indeed pretty obvious. So I Googled it and found out that it's a capacitor.
I called Appliance Parts Center and explained my mini-crisis to Monty who sounded very savvy and told me to bring everything and we'd find a solution. But I found another appliance place closer so decided to try them first. Big mistake. The folks there had never heard of the capacitor I needed, had no one who truly grasped the problem, and also didn't have another very common part I needed for my microwave. I left fed up and vowed to never return. Then I drove on to APC.
I should have gone there in the first place. Monty was tied up, but Don Macneice took one look at my fried capacitor, walked to a shelf, and handed me a new one... all within 15 seconds.
APC is a very clean, well-orgianized place with knowledgeable, clean-cut people eager to help. Not only did I get an instant discount but Don special-ordered my microwave part to arrive in a few days, and cheaper than online! To me, this is what superb customer service is all about, especially in this age when most employees are either ignorant of what they're selling or couldn't care less about your parts problem.
It took me less than 5 minutes to install the new capacitor, and I held my breath when I turned the circuit breaker back on. Voilá! -- my A/C fired right up and within minutes I had cold air blasting out the ducts.
I'm grateful for Don's expertise and product knowledge. Getting that small $58 part probably saved me several hundred dollars, at least. I will now go to APC for all my parts needs. Thanks, Don!
