This is a hidden gem and they have found a new loyal customer after one good night here. I came to Kensington Market on a Saturday night and had no plans. But I was tempted down this rabbit hole with the prospect of unique cocktails and live jazz.
They have a small drink list, but was pretty happy (read 3 drinks happy) with their Mills mixed drink. Which is a combination of I believe whiskey and beer. Just trust me, they do their drinks right here. They also serve coffee and teas for the non-drinking crowd.
The ambiance and overall experience is perfect for a date night. The place is cozy, maybe 10 bar seats and an equal number of 2-person candle lit tables. The dim lights and live jazz in an intimate 'venue' puts Poetry Jazz Cafe on a different level than other bars in the area.
Pro tip:
This place opens in the afternoon (4-ish?) but is empty up until 10pm when the live music starts. Come early for a table (which are very limited) and cheaper cover charge.
