Wanted to celebrate my birthday with a meal at Emeril's at the MGM Hotel. My wife and I shared a bowl of gumbo, sweet barbecued Scottish salmon, and pecan crusted Texas redfish. Every aspect of the service was absolutely outstanding. Shortly after we sat down, they brought us a small handout. Very tasty. Next came the gumbo. They were kind enough to split the gumbo in the kitchen. There was ample sausage, shrimp, and other goodies in the broth. It was good, but not great. The seafood restaurant in our local casino does an equally good job with their gumbo. I expected more from Emeril. The barbecue salmon had an andouille pork sausage and potato hash accompaniment. Delish!! The pecan crusted redfish came with pepper jack cheese grits and creole meuniere sauce. Yumm! Both fish dishes were terrific. So with excellent service and two main courses that were outstanding, why the 3 star rating? For me to give 4 or 5 stars, it has to be a restaurant that I want to return to soon. As a local, driving to the restaurant required parking at the MGM hotel. MGM has decided to add $15 to the cost of a meal at an MGM restaurant. Boy that pisses me off. I won't be going back soon. Hence 3 star review.
