| - The only saving grace about this hotel is the view (on the river facing side), the salads from the restaurant, and the conference accommodations. That is it.
I stayed here for three days in September for a work conference. I was disappointed to hear that they have a shuttle that doesn't run to or from the airport; just in a short radius around the hotel. So, after catching a cab, I made my way to check in. The check in was quick and the front desk staff were okay - some were better than others. I will say that if you asked for special accommodations, be sure to review them at check in. I requested a mini fridge for medical reasons and there was not one in my room, and the front desk didn't address it at check in.
My room was filthy. Weeks worth of dust and grime everywhere. The toilet was disgusting. A black ring around the toilet, the seat was practically falling off, and was hanging on by two urine covered pieces. The headboard was scratched and worn, as was the remainder of the furniture. My double lock was broken off my door. The wallpaper was peeling. And, on top of it all, the sheets were stained. They looked clean, but were very stained. I'm talking hard, crusty stains.
I doubted an ability to switch rooms as the conference that I was attending had 400+ attendees and the hotel was booked with a lot of attendees staying at an overflow hotel.
I walked up the street and purchased some sanitizing wipes and spray to clean with, and took the crusty sheets off my bed. Several other attendees informed me that their rooms were just as dirty, and that housekeeping did little if anything to solve the issue. One had housekeeping come up to clean her room - the housekeeper took the sheets off the bed, put the comforter and pillows on the floor and proceeded to reuse them on her bed again. If the rest of the room is dirty, then the floor is likely an abomination and not somewhere I'd want my pillows or other bedding.
The bar downstairs was downright disgusting. We stopped by after a night out on the town, and the bar smelled like a convalescent home. All I could smell was mold, dankness, and vomit, and the smell was permeating from behind the bar, not the bar area. I informed the bartender that the smell reminded of the smell of dead mice (don't ask...I grew up in the country...the smell is indescribable and very distinguishable). The bartender tried telling me that the smell was due to the number of patrons and how busy they were, but that smell was absolutely due to the lack of cleanliness behind the bar and likely a rodent problem. On top of that, I ordered a Hendricks gin on the rocks and I could tell from the viscosity and smell that the liquor that came out of the bottle and for which I was charged $16 was not Hendricks. I drink Hendricks all the time, it is my drink, and I can tell when a bar refills their Hendricks bottle with cheap gin that reeks of juniper.
I did speak with a manager on day two of my stay and her response was, "did you tell anyone". As if I wasn't sitting there, telling her. She seemed shocked that there was an issue...despite numerous other people complaining. She also didn't understand the smell that I described so I requested that she goes back to the bar and smells it for herself, she declined.
We had several beverage and food receptions as well as a catered luncheon and after hours meet and greet during the conference. Overall the conference accommodations met my expectations - well staffed and the food and beverages were okay.
