  • Remember the sign in the window of TCC proclaiming that they were renovating, and would be opened again in 2 weeks? Two months later, same sign in the window, I finally assumed they had closed down and just weren't being forthcoming about it. Bummer for me, because I loved TCC! (Rhyme not initially intended, but I'm leaving it.) But now...IT'S OPEN AGAIN!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! Wait a second...no, it's not. But The Toronto Coffee and Tea House is, which looks exactly the same as the TCC. I'm not going to pretend to be a detective here. The only reason I am not assuming that I'm in the TCC buying cookies and mindlessly loitering is because I tried to confirm their ever-changing hours on Facebook and saw the following post from the TCC owner: "Unfortunately, in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday December 9th, 2012, without my knowledge, all of the contents of the Toronto Coffee Company were removed under cover of night, by my now former friends and co-owners of The Toronto Coffee Company, Derrick and Joan Kent. Unfortunately, this immediately put The Toronto Coffee Company into a termination of its lease, and the Toronto Coffee Company was thereby ousted. These same individuals have apparently convinced the landlord to issue a new lease to them and they have now moved back into the space under a similar name, The Toronto Coffee and Tea House. Their actions have forced the Toronto Coffee Company out of business and caused severe damages. I can't say much further, as it is in the hands of the lawyers. All of this was done without my knowledge and in spite of great efforts to keep the Toronto Coffee Company in good standing, which it was in, prior to these shocking events... "I truly feel terrible, as this neighbourhood, Bloordale, is my home, and has been for almost 10 years. The new occupiers do not live in Bloordale. In fact they don't even live in Toronto. With all of my heart and soul I worked hard to help make this neighbourhood something special. And I created the vision and business plan for the Toronto Coffee Company, out of love, and grew it every day with an open heart. That I won't be seeing you all in that space ever again is very very sad and unjust. To all of my many friends, customers, neighbours, and supporters of me and The Toronto Coffee Company, I miss you all badly. I had no notice whatsoever but am doing my best to pick up the pieces and carry on. My goal is to open a new coffee shop, I just have no idea right now, when that will happen. "Sincerely, from myself, your neighbour and true coffee merchant, Blair Holder" 5 stars for the memory of the wonderful TCC (which seems to be exactly the same as the business there now).
