| - I thought I was making reservations for a different restaurant and completely stumbled on Izakaya Go (IG). The cooked dishes were a tasty surprise. While I will avoid the sushi and sashimi in the future, I will definitely add this place to my rotation.
HOT DISHES
Gindara (black cod)
Hamachi Kama (yellow tail collar)
Spinach with garlic
Asparagus with bacon
Agedashi Tofu
Onigiri (with bonito flakes)
Cold Dishes
Halibut sashimi
Tuna sashimi
Mochi
I can't say how authentic the asparagus and spinach are, but I can say that they are seasoned well, greasy (in the best way), and delicious. The hamachi Kama was the standout dish of the meal. So often I've ordered this dish from other establishemnts and found the fish collar is overcooked, not properly crisped, or the piece of fish is naturally thin and lacking in enough fat or flavor. The collar here was thick and cooked very well. it's such a simple and comforting dish that I cannot help but base my impression largely on my experience with this piece of fish. I am always seeking a good piece of fish treated well.
We raved about our hot dishes, but the table was silent when we ate the sashimi. The tuna pieces were cut way too thick and there was chewy/difficult gristle in each piece that made for an unappetizing bite. Since the raw fish was only a small portion of our meal, it did not sully our experience.
In total, I had ZERO expectations when we walked in the door. And I left pleased with the service and each of the cooked dishes. I really like this place--its vibe, the hot dishes, and the location. While I hit some bumps in my meal, there is so much more on the menu I want to try. Based on my first experience, I am absolutely going to come back.
