| - My son started at Whiz Kidz since he was 2.5 months old. My concerns are that Whiz Kids is unprofessional and the staff is frighteningly overwhelmed. First of all, when I picked up my infant at the end of the day, the teacher, Ms Ally would be cleaning and disinfecting the infant room (while the infants were present in the room). This is mortifying when you think of an insulated room with all the fumes surrounding the infants. Secondly, my child was kicked out of daycare through an email on Labor Day for crying and wanting to be held. He's a 5 month old crying and wanting to be held-is this shocking? The only reports were from a sad face on his daily report card-not even one teacher/parent meeting . The Director sent me an EMAIL suggesting 1:1 daycare (wouldn't any parent love this if they could afford it). The Director stated that Whiz Kidz could no longer care for my crying infant. I spoke to a friend who audited daycares who stated that this was unacceptable practice. I immediately took my 5 month old out of Whiz Kidz and sent him to KinderCare. The new Daycare Director and teachers were amazing and KinderCare does not use any swings in their school. In fact, infants are placed in mats in a bright room and surrounded by love and developmental toys. It took only 1 week for the new Director to tell me that my son was excelling, meeting milestones, happy, and not crying even once.
And not once do I see teachers using disinfectants to clean cribs, floors, and toys while infants were present in the room. He is now the happiest 9 month old in the world, crawls, and close to walking!. His teachers gives daily verbal feedback and provides helpful tips of what he likes/dislikes.
I am a new mom and did not initially know what acceptable /not acceptable standards were for a daycare in AZ. Placing an infant in a swing all day (WARNING parents-do NOT sign the consent that let's Whiz Kids allow babies to stay in swings over state's 30 minute law), using disinfectants in a small infant room around infants, and kicking out your child through an email on a National Holiday (with not even one parent/teacher care conference) is unacceptable daycare standards. I only hope I can help other parents from experiencing any heartache by avoiding this daycare.
Please also note the turnover rate of teachers is extremely high in this school. I had 4 different teachers during the 3 months we were there. (there is zero turnover in our new school in the infant room) Lastly, the daycare smells disgusting.... I only realized this after moving my child to Kindercare.
I have filed a complaint to the state of Arizona regarding all these issues .
Please also hold your breath in discussing your concerns with the Director, Ms Martha. The very pregnant Director was never present at Whiz Kidz. Instead, Ms Martha would send emails (see below) without any forewarning to the parents. Keep in mind that my 9 month old son did not meet any developmental milestones when going to Whiz Kidz (the entire 3 months he was there) but is now almost walking and reading books with his teacher at the end of the day (not being placed in an excersaucer crying while the teacher is disinfecting the classroom). Lastly, the Director agreed to having a flexible schedule of 10.5 hours for my child at daycare given that my husband and I have long work hours. However, my child was also fired for being in the school for 10.5 hours (which was what Whiz Kidz promised before we ever committed to sending our son there).
I am attaching the email that the Director sent to me on a National Holiday. She couldn't even set up a parent teacher conference to say this in person. I have never heard of a Director to be this disengaged and unprofessional.
Attached email from Whiz Kidz Director on Labor Day:
"Hope you are doing well, I wanted to speak with you regarding ###. ### has been crying and screaming chronically now for some time. We have tried EVERYTHING possible, not only Ms Ally but Ms Cathy and myself have to go in to the class daily to try to assist . It has become so bad that his cry is heard throughout the school, distracting classrooms and well also makes the other babies in his classroom upset.
I know Ms Ally has spoken with you about some concerns. From observing him, we think something maybe bothering or hurting him. I'm not sure if something is hurting him or he's used to being carried at all times but we just can't seem to make him happy :( As this is a daycare environment where babies share a caregiver, we cannot ignore the rest of the babies to attend to primarily one baby.
It may be in his best interest to have a more of a one on one caregiver to care for him.
In addition, our school policy is maximum 10 hours per day. And he's usually here more than the 10 hours per day.
I hate to have to do this but, we will need to find an immediate solution or unfortunately we will no longer be able to care for ###"-Ms Marth
