| - This is my first one star rating I have ever given. I cannot believe the service I have received. I moved into our house on Friday, went to start my washer on a Monday and it began to leak from under the wall. I called my home warranty people. They told me not to worry they would send out a company to look at the leak and we will get all of this taken care of. 05/12/2016 Ideal sends out this technician by the name of George or Jorge...
Jorge came into the house, he was very rude. He was very condescending from the start of our conversation. He already seemed like I am taking time out of his busy day to do me a favor. He asks me where the leak is and I show him. He tells me he can't get to where the leak is and to remove the stuff, he has his ear bud in his ear from the phone and starts talking to someone while I take a door off, move the washer and dryer away from the wall with my step daughter. Didn't even offer to help??
Before Jorge even looked at a leak, he tells me the washer box is too low and out of code and that will need to be brought up to code after repair. I ask him to look at the leak. He says "are you sure its not leaking from the washer?" I told him it does not, it leaks from under the wall. He proceeds to start the washer on rinse and drain cycle and gets back on the phone with someone on his ear bud. I know for a fact that Jorge or George didn't do anything with the leak because when he began his paperwork there was no water from underneath the wall.
Jorge tells me that I have a cracked drain pipe or something (or something...smh), he has to open the wall and if he does and fixes the leak they need to move the washer box up to code to 48 inches. He says that the total amount will be the $75 deductible and $250 to raise the box to code and he begins to leave. I asked him if they are going to fix the leak and he says "not today and laughs" He says he doesn't have the parts and hasn't gotten approval from home warranty. I asked him to call and he says they will take 45 minutes to respond and he doesn't have time to get approval. He will call me later. I told him I have 6 kids living at the house and laundry piles up and I need this done asap. He calls the warranty people. He tells them the box is out of code and that he needs to get into the wall to fix the leak. He tells them it is one hour work time. They talk for a while and then he gets back on the phone with who is in his ear bud and tells them he will call them back later.
He tells me I have to call warranty. I asked him for the "code" that explains I have to move my washer box up to 48 inches from the Pea Trap. He says he doesn't have the plumber code book, its at the office. I asked him how then can he reference a code. He told me to call the office. He leaves and I measure the washer box, its 30 inches from this pea trap. I measure how high 48 inches is and it is two inches above my front loading washer. That didn't seem right.
I call Ashley at Ideal Services and she told me there is no plumber code book, that it is a city code. She told me that if a city inspector entered my home that my house has to be up to code. She gave me a UPC number 804 and told me to look it up with the city. I asked again how can you reference a code if you don't have it. She said the Technicians just know..... I call my home inspection person, who tells me that my house was built during a time when the code stated my washer box should be at 30 inches but this code they are referencing is for new construction.
I called a plumber. He confirmed that I am grandfathered in at 30 inches. That I do not have to move the box up to 48 inches, everyone in Las Vegas is trying to make a dollar and my plumbing company doesn't make much money on home warranty service calls. He told me to have someone come out and give me a second opinion. I did what he told me and decided not to use ideal.
on 05/13/2016 Ashley from ideal calls me to confirm when they are coming out to service the leak.. She said Jorge/George confirmed that washer box has to be at 32 (now its 32 inches?) from the pea trap. I told her my washer box was 30 inches and I am grandfathered in. She said well that is what you have to have if you want it fixed. Goerge/jorge tells me 48 inches initially, then Ashley says 32 inches what is it??
UPC code 804.1 initially in 2000 universal plumbing "no less then 18 inches and no more then 30 inches". I reviewed the amendments in 2006, 2009 and 2012, doesn't mention 48 inches or 32 inches unless there is something I'm not reading.....either way I've been told by 2 plumbers and my home inspection team the box doesn't need to be moved...
Wont be using Ideal...
