  • We were in the middle of a complete re-do of our back yard and had done some research about types of trees and which ones might be best for a smaller yard. We had finally decided it was time to go purchase trees and upon describing the area we were trying to plant, our Moon Valley sales rep recommended a "Tipu" tree. The specimens Moon Valley had were young trees, but they seemed quite pretty and we were told they would "umbrella" over an expansive patio we wanted to provide shade for. These trees were also not the cheapest among the ones we were looking at. I asked the salesperson VERY SPECIFICALLY if these trees were overly messy since we were putting them in the corner of our yard over the patio and the BBQ. The sale rep said "not at all, they shed only once or twice a year." I have to say...it's been over a year and that tree HAS NOT STOPPED dropping crap all over my patio. In Spring, it's flower blooms, in summer, it's leaves and seed pods, in fall, it's leaves and TONS of branches and twigs, in winter, it just sheds leaves upon leaves. Very disappointing!!!!!! This rep new nothing! Shame on me for not doing some research on the Internet and finding out that they are generally categorized as "messy" and these are not recommended for smaller yards, around pools, or near patio areas. Every time I see what a mess my back yard is, I think of the lie this salesperson told. Bottom line? Don't buy any trees without due diligence! You cannot count on the "experts" at this location to make a practical recommendation.
