| - Really good Thai food! I noticed that 90% of the people who review this place only order about 10% of the dishes they offer (and the menu is about 10 pages long), so I decided to try two dishes that were not mentioned very often, including one more traditional Thai dish, and one of the more rare "Northern Thai" specialties. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit, and I'll try to address some of the things that other reviews mentioned as well.
1) Everyone seems to talk about how long the wait is for this place. However, if you come for lunch, especially early in the week, you will probably be able to get right in. I arrived at 10:30AM on a Monday (they open at 11:00AM), and I was all by myself in line until a couple minutes before they opened. By the time I left around noon, the restaurant still wasn't even 1/3 full. Do yourself a favor and either a) come for lunch (although they only serve lunch on weekdays, and they did say that Friday lunch can get busy), or b) make a reservations (just be sure to make the reservation at least 4-5 days out).
2) The service was *on point*! My server was speedy and attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the food, helped me with my allergy (if you are allergic to milk, like me, very few of their dishes have dairy in them, and the ones that do are mostly desert or drinks), and kept my water glass full. I was very impressed with this.
3) The menu is HUGE. This could be good or bad for you, but I like having a ton of choices. You can find everything from traditional Pad Thai and curries to more rare "Northern Thai" dishes that are somewhat Burmese in flavor. They also have a really big drink menu, including a ton of wines.
4) The food was excellent. For my traditional dish (so I had a point of comparison), I had a bowl of Tom Yum soup. It was excellent: perfectly spiced (you can choose how spicy you want it) and had a TON of chicken. Super yummy. For my exotic choice, I decided on "Kha Nom Jean Nam Ngyow," a pork stew over rice noodles. The dish was like nothing I have ever had at a Thai Restaurant before, but reminded me a little of Burmese. It included ground pork with a spicy tomato/chili sauce over noodles and garnished with bean sprouts and cabbage. I was pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend this dish.
5) The prices were also reasonable: both of my dishes came out to under $20 with tax and tip. Many reviews talk about this place being expensive, but there are really just a handful of dishes (mostly the famous ones) that are pricey. To be honest, I didn't see a huge difference in price between Lotus of Siam and my favorite Thai places back home, except for the few ultra-popular specialty dishes.
6) The restaurant is HUGE, inviting, and clean (including the bathroom). You can easily take the bus here from the strip (took about 25 minutes from the MGM Grand), but they also have lots of free parking.
I can't wait to come back and try more dishes here: there are about 20 I am looking forward to trying. I'll be sure to update when I do. For now, you should really visit and try it for yourself!
