| - My husband and I hired Ohio Valley Group two years ago to landscape our front yard. The project was around 16k and involved tearing down a retaining wall, removing existing landscaping, installing a new retaining wall, new walkway and front step and of course plants and flowers. We hired Ohio Valley Group because we viewed Andy Deangelo as knowledgeable and trustworthy. He spent a good deal of time with us on the front-end of the project and felt that he would do a good job for us and we therefore signed a contract with OVG.
To say I judged his character and expertise incorrectly is an understatement. As we neared the end of the project which focused on the stamped concrete and some minor electrical work, their inexperience and lack of attention to detail was evident. The day they poured the concrete it was hot. One could immediately see that there were cracks throughout the walkway. When we mentioned this to Andy he dismissed it as "that's normal and concrete always cracks". We researched this and found that micro-fractures are caused by pouring concrete in hot weather. Andy did not offer to make it right after we brought this to his attention. We have stamped concrete in our backyard, poured by another contractor and its five years old and it doesn't have any cracks, divots or micro-fractures. Additionally, OVG didn't stain the side edge of the front step, claiming that mulch would cover it. As it turns out, it doesn't cover it up and it's awful. We have to pile the mulch extremely high to cover the imperfection. The white kick-plate on our door was fairly new, and was ruined by carelessness and not covering the kick-plate and keeping it free of stain. The light fixture stopped working a 1/2 year in and the aesthetics of the job were done poorly because of the inferior cutting of the stone around the fixture.
The final factor that has caused me to write this review is: two years later, the dye is wearing away on the front step and the pitting on the stoop is worse. I want to mention that salt was never used on this walkway and the entrance is used only occasionally as we typically enter and exit from the garage.
I first texted Andy with pictures asking that he call me. No response. I left a voicemail that he didn't return. I called again and he picked up and abruptly/rudely told me to call his office as he was on a job and couldn't talk. I did and spoke to Cheri asking that someone come out and inspect it. Cheri asked that I email pics of the stoop. Andy replied to the message with the following, "Every two to three years it is recommended to apply sealer, which will bring out the color in the concrete. Color can fade due to weather and wear and tear. In the future, please call the office instead of my cell phone, as I will get these messages". I emailed again saying that sealer will not bring out the pigment as there isn't any present. No return call or email.
Let me be clear, sealer is not going to help with this nor is it going to fix the divots. The fact that we spent 16k with this company and they won't even return my call is unacceptable. Perhaps 16k for Ohio Valley Group might be a small job and not important. However, if they don't want to be bothered with us minions than don't accept the jobs and focus on the larger jobs.
Do not be swayed by the smooth sales delivery of Andy Deangelo. He is not a man who values his customers or holds true to his word. I am extremely disappointed, and feel we have been taken advantage of and have thrown hard earned money out the door. My next step is to contact the Better Business Bureau with hopes of getting some money returned to us by OVG so we can somehow fix this.
