| - I have never publicly given a business bad reviews as I've generally been satisfied with companies I have dealt with in the past. I expected no less with Howren Music, especially since they seemed helpful when my daughter was so excited to sign up for 6th grade band. I paid my deposit and happily signed the monthly payment agreement, thinking everything was handled.
My daughter came home from school today, rounding out her first week at school, with a message from her band teacher. The teacher told her that her instrument had not been delivered to the school as promised and I needed to get in touch with the folks at Howren. No problem. Thinking this was going to be a quick call to clear up a simple misunderstanding, I place the call and explain the situation. The lady I spoke with took my number and told me I would receive a call back from the guy that delivered instruments to the school.
A short time later, that call comes in. Unaware of the nastiness and rudeness that awaited me on the other end of the line, I put the call on speaker as I'm in the kitchen preparing for supper while my two daughters are sitting at the bar giving me a "play by play" in the day of the life of two preteen girls.
This company representative is immediately abrasive, defensive, and when I try to speak his voice gets louder and louder to the point he is yelling, interrupting me and "overspeaking" me....ranting that he knows he delivered that clarinet to the school and I need to call that band teacher and straighten it out with them. He went on to tell me it was "above and beyond his duty to contact the school" and that he had completed his job by delivering the instrument. Furthermore, he blamed the school, for scheduling mistakes. I acknowledge my daughter, as well as a few other students, had been placed in the wrong band class....however, it was ironed out within the first few days of classes....hey, these teachers have a lot to keep up with!
Needless to say, I was in shock at how such a simple situation and request had come to this. My daughter was in tears that someone would talk to her mamma in such a way and blamed herself. After calming my daughter, I called the company back to report how rudely and unprofessional I had been treated. At that point, I was "dismissed".........transferred twice and treated very curtly and impolitely.....like I was the troublemaker!
Now, I'm not sure what to do. The clarinet is probably at the school. However, it still rankles me that I would be spoken to in such a manner without any provocation. After giving these people my hard earned money! What has happened to customer service and basic human decency that simple kindness is extinct? I suppose I will call the school and speak to the band teacher Monday to see what choices I have and if they have ever had such an experience with this company.
