Just came from Sen of Japan. I have to start out by saying I am absolutely spoiled by the sushi places I normally go to in So Cal. I am up here visiting my parents and my dad loves to go out for sushi when we come up. We normally go to a different place but saw some good reviews so we thought we would give it a try. The place is clean and presents itself well. Our server was attentive and took decent care of us.
While that is great I go out to sushi for FISH. While it was fresh, the proportions were terribly small, to the extent that we were joking about it. The fish was sliced really thin, you could almost see through it. The premium sashimi plates (30 bucks apiece) we ordered, once again, had decent quality but such limited quantity, it was very disappointing. Lots of rice in the rolls. Not kidding, we spent a considerable amount for dinner and on the way home stopped at another place as we were still hungry.
The night before we had sushi of equal quality (we had gone to Ohjah, close by) but spent a lot less (still not cheap, but way more reasonable) and were quite satisfied with the experience. I really wonder what people are comparing this place to when they are rating this place so high.
