  • I took a class at Pole Fitness Studio as part of a ClassPass membership. If you're unfamiliar with ClassPass, it's a monthly membership that allows you to take classes at a variety of boutique studios. You sign up on their website, and you're good to go. I had a little difficulty finding the studio, but when I finally found my way to the 2nd floor studio where you check-in, I wasn't very impressed with the reception. The girl checking me in didn't seem at all interested that I was there. She barely acknowledged me and certainly didn't greet me with a friendly smile. After she checked me in, that was it. I had to ask where to go for the class. To which she replied, "It's in the studio downstairs across the parking lot. Everyone is already there." Which made me feel like I was already late to the class, so I hurried down the stairs to the other studio. When I walked in, there was a class in full motion. The instructor was adjusting the music and asked if I was here for Toning Ballet. I said yes, and she went right back into the class. I was left confused. Was this my class? Was I supposed to just jump right in? I looked at the clock and it was still 5 minutes before the class was supposed to start, so I just kind of awkwardly stood in the back. Finally it was clear that I'd entered in the last few minutes of the previous class. It would have been nice if the instructor had simply mentioned I should have a seat while this class finished up and that Toning Ballet would start in a few minutes. Would have made me feel much more comfortable. After the slightly rocky start, Toning Ballet turned out to be a tough workout, and I was really feeling it the next day. It wasn't a traditional pole dancing class, since it didn't use the poles at all. :) It wasn't at all what I was expecting, though. It was mostly floor work with a few arm flourishes that resembled what you might envision when you think of ballet. The class was 45 minutes of the floor work and 10 minutes actually doing what I would consider "ballet" moves. Again, it was definitely a good workout, but I'd say the emphasis was more on toning than on ballet. The instructor was super nice and friendly! However, she has a pretty soft voice, and the music was often too loud for me to hear her instructions very well. Overall, I'm not sure if I'd go back to this studio. The reception for a new student wasn't very welcoming, and that makes a big impact on my decision to return.
