  • The Las Vegas mayor in 1999 said he wanted such a museum, and was the mayor for 12 years, and brought this museum to life. You really learn about these bad guys, and the life they chose. Mobsters would typically begin their lives as social misfits and outcasts, basically just loser street punks, but resorted to violence and murder to gain prominence and power. But what a Faustian bargain! They were lazy and wanted wealth without working for it. Their illegal businesses are called "rackets" because they created such a commotion. This building is a former federal courthouse and post office. It is the courthouse where many a mobster was tried and convicted. You begin the tour on the 3rd floor, and end on the 1st floor. Plan to spend about 2.5 hrs looking at and reading all the exhibits. There are also several mini-movies, and a graphic section showing the mob's greatest hits. Funny thing about being a mobster, is that you'd spend much of your time just hanging around with other mobsters waiting for something to happen, and the rest of your time you are eating, drinking, playing cards, or just telling people to fuhgeddaboudit! You are virtually guaranteed to end up in prison, the hospital or dead. There are few rich, retired mobsters. Very well done museum and worth a visit, even at $20 bucks. Be a wise guy, and visit the coolest museum around today. You can walk here from Freemont street when you need a break from the casino. Just look it up on Yelp, and map it. 0.7 miles. Not too bad a walk in the daytime. Minimal number of street creepers or mobster ghosts seen along the way.
